Who We Are

Mission, Purpose and Scope

Mission

The mission of Threat Assessment and Management is to promote a safe and secure campus environment for all members of the University community by providing effective threat assessment processes, coordination of case management and education to the University community.

Purpose

The purpose of Threat Assessment and Management is to identify, investigate, assess and manage individual(s) of concern within the UNC Charlotte community who are demonstrating behaviors of concerns or warning signs that indicate they may pose a threat to and/or commit an act of violent behavior against a member(s) of the University community. The goal is to reduce risk factors for committing violent behaviors and to enable the person to remain positively engaged in the academic or work environment.

Threat assessment is a systematic process that is designed to:

  • Identify person(s)/situation(s) whose behavior cause a concern for violence
  • Gather additional relevant information in a lawful and ethical manner
  • Assess the person(s)/situation(s) in context and based on the totality of the information available
  • Manage the individual situation with the goal of preventing violence and mitigating the impact of harm

Scope

UNC Charlotte’s Threat Assessment and Management applies to all University community members, including faculty, SHRA and EHRA staff, and students, as well as non-University community members whose behaviors may affect the safety of the University community.
